When we get triggered by something we see, hear, taste, touch, or smell that reminds us of a painful event in our life we react with emotions and behaviors. We have a fight or flight mechanism when in the fight we might get angry or become anxious. When we flight we want to run away physically or emotionally. Or we can shut down - this can be considered our freeze response- we get depressed, don’t want to get out of bed, no motivation, we say “yes” when we want to say no, we comply.
Do you find medications are not helpful?
Kay Gottrich LCPC PLLC Springfield Trauma Counseling Center will equip you with skills and understanding of both mind and body so you can begin your healing journey from the painful effects of verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual trauma, and or lack of boundaries. Sometimes we experience traumatic losses such as COVID-19- not being able to connect with others, changes in the workplace, loss of a job, loss of relationships, divorce, death of friends and loved ones and Kay can help you find meaning again, identify your strengths and resources, teach new skills, and heal from these painful experiences using Sandtray therapy, EMDR, and other evidence-based treatments.
We are all doing the best we can. Trauma is transmitted from generation to generation by the lack of coping skills we learn. We are not born knowing how to deal with all the adversities we face. We learn how to be with our emotions and how to interact with ourselves. Yet many of us did not learn that from our parenting, because they were parenting with the skills they learned. Break the transgenerational pattern of trauma today.
